SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPY FOR CHILDREN

Independent therapy in West Hertfordshire and surrounding areas

Home: Welcome

ABOUT ME

Independent Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

I offer specialist assessment and treatment of children with speech sound disorders in West Hertfordshire and surrounding areas.

I qualified in 2009 and worked in the NHS for over 10 years supporting children with a wide range of speech, language and communication needs.

I now choose to work independently so that I can work closely with families for as long as is needed, create opportunities for children to achieve success as confident communicators and to enable parents to feel empowered to help their child.

I am happy to be able to provide specialist support and reassurance for families when it's needed most.

I am a:

  • Certified member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (MRCSLT)

  • Registrant with the Health & Care Professional Council (MHCPC)

  • Member of the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (MASLTIP)

  • I hold full enhanced DBS clearance

ASSESSMENT

What to expect

Assessments can take place at your home or your child's nursery or school and last between 45 to 90 minutes depending on the areas being assessed and your child's age. Parents are encouraged to attend.

There will be time for you to discuss your concerns in detail and provide a developmental history. I will help your child to relax and have fun first and then assess their speech and language skills through a combination of play based activities and standardised tests.

You will receive a verbal summary of the results at the end of the session. If therapy is indicated you will receive a written summary report which will be reviewed with you at the first therapy session.

TREATMENT

What to expect

Therapy sessions can take place at your home /school or nursery. Sessions are 45 minutes long, and always involve parents (or other adults caring for your child e.g school staff or childminders)

Therapy sessions are usually weekly, we will discuss and agree the frequency of therapy at the time of your assessment.

Therapy in isolation is rarely successful so it's really important for adults to help children practice the skills learned in a therapy session, throughout the week at home. I will show you how!

Therapy is play based and fun - each session is carefully tailored for your child's needs and you will be provided with bespoke resources for use at home or school as well as additional advice by phone/email if required
